Activities

Thursday 26th is the date for this month for needlecraft. Please let me know if you are coming either at 10.00 or 7.30. I have a few ideas for projects we could work on or you might like to bring along something of your own to work with.
If you have any ideas for midweek activities please talk to Bec or Marj. If there is anything you would be interested in doing or learning or teaching we would like to know about it. As it is getting towards the busy end of the year we may like to start thinking about things to do next year, especially in the summer months when the weather is warmer.

Newslettter

Anyone who has any articles for the newsletter please send them in to hobartward@gmail.com over the next two weeks. Any interesting items would be appreciated.

Goodbye and goodluck

Sarah and Joe Parsons and family will be leaving us soon to move to Launceston. Joe has earned a promotion at work so congratulations go to them. We will be very sad to see them leave us as we had gotten used to having them here and enjoying their talents and their friendship. I'm sure we will see them from time to time.  We would like to wish them well for the future, we will miss you all.

Congratultions Kerry and Welcome

Mathew and Kerry Pawson recently married so we would like to congratulate them and  welcome Kerry to our ward.  I believe Kerry will not be moving permanently to our area  until the end of the year due to commitments up north but it is nice to have you join us whenever you can. Welcome Kerry and family.

NEEDLECRAFT DAY

This month on Thursday the 28th Aug. I have stake leadership training. That means we will not be able to have our Craft night on that night. I have decided to change it to Wednesday once again. So it will be Wednesday 27th at 7.30.
To keep it consistant we will  have the daytime session on the same day (Wednesday)  at 10.00.  Please let me know if you will be comming.
We will be finishing (hopefully) the casserole carriers or you can bring anything else you would like to work on. If anyone wants to get started on a crosstitch for Phoebe Richardson  (See previous post) we could do that too.

Quilt for Phoebe Richardson

Kirsten has nominated Phoebe Richardson (Kelly’s little girl) for a quilt on the website www.quilts4kids.com . They make quilts for very sick children. Phoebe is going to be featured as a child of 2008.  This means that cross stitch squares are going to be made by stitchers all over the world in her chosen theme.  If you want to be involved and make a square for Phoebe’s quilt go to the website. Phoebe will be featured soon on  “Kids of 2008”. When her photo appears you can click on it and follow the instructions. You will need to sign up.  You need to choose your own pattern and email quilts4kids to have it approved for the quilt.  Apparently there are lots of patterns online that you can use. Phoebe's theme is “Flowers and Fairies"

 Any questions just ask  Kirsten

It would be a good project to work on at our Needlework sessions. If you do not know how to do crosstitch we can teach you.

BOOKCLUB

 A MESSAGE FROM KIRSTEN
All sisters who are interested in participating in the book Club can you please give your suggestions and preferences regarding book choices.  I had the time set for the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7:30pm but I am unsure how suitable that is so we also need feedback regarding available times and places to meet.  Please can you contact Kirsten if you are interested and we will get going from there.

TRANSPORT FOR SISTER MISSIONARIES

Matthew Pawson has sent the following email:

The Sister missionaries are presently without a car.  I understand that it is getting fixed after a minor traffic incident (which wasn’t their fault).

President Lee has asked them not to be out of the flat after dark unless they have vehicle transport.

Therefore, I am asking whether there are any sisters available, as a short term solution, to transport the Sister missionaries in the evenings?

Can you please ask your wives (as the case may be), or yourselves, and also send this email far and wide, to see if we can arrange something to assist the Sisters to meet their evening appointments.

If there are any volunteers, can you please call me on

0409 709 884, or reply to this email  matthew@pwl.com.au

WARD CONFERENCE.

On Sunday the 27th July it's Ward Conference. We start Relief Society at 1.00 p.m. Don't forget to bring biscuits if you offered to help.  We will share them with some Milo at 4.00.

Lillyanne's Quilt

The quilt for Lillyanne is finally finished. There were a few sisters who helped with making the quilt which Lillyanne had started some time ago and was unable to finish. A special thanks to Cindy Reed who did most of the piecing and working out what needed to be done. I managed to get it quilted and Cindy helped get the binding sewn on last Wednesday when we had our needlework day.  Lillyanne is very pleased to have it to cheer her up as she has been having some health problems of late.

Needlework group.
There are a few casserole carriers under construction as well as  some quilts. The sisters enjoyed working on their projects as well as friendshipping with each other. Our next needlework day will be the 21st August (Thursday). We will continue to work on the casserole carriers or quilts or whatever else anyone wants to do.

Thank You

Thank you to everyone who helped make supper for the Stake Winter Ball. We had a lovely variety of "wintery" food.

Friday, July 18, 2008

Ward Conference.

This will be held on Sunday the 27th July. We will have MILO SUNDAY on that day so that we can fellowhip with the Stake leaders. We would appreciate some home made biscuits or slices to eat with the Milo. We will give out some assignments this Sunday the 20th. Please tell us if you can help.

MISSIONARIES

Just a reminder that the Sister missionaries are available to do splits with any sister who needs help with visiting teaching.  You and your companion can split with the missionaries and do your visiting in 1/2 the time, or one sister can take both sisters with her to visit if her companion is not available. This would be a great opportunity for you and the sisters you visit to get to know the sisters, especially for less active sisters, or new members. Please see the Sisters at church to arrange a suitable time with them.
Two of the Elders are not getting many tea dates. This may be because Elder Williamson is Gluten intolerant. This should not cause a big problem. It basically means he cannot eat WHEAT. That is anything with flour in it. It should not be too difficult to prepare a meal without flour. A meal of meat and vegetables would be suitable. It just means no flour in gravies or casseroles, you can use cornflour instead. Also dishes with pasta are not suitable. Any other food is ok. Rice is ok. The Elders would really appreciate an invitation  to your place. Please fill out  a night on the missionary meal roster on Sunday.
The missionaries have a baptism planned for Saturday 26th July at 4.00.

Casserole Carrier

I made a practice casserole carrier last week. If you want to make one and you like this fabric it's on sale at the Quilted Crow in Liverpool Street.
You will need 1/2 meter of quilted fabric and 1/2 meter of cotton fabric.(for binding)

I've checked out spotlight and they didn't have any quilted fabric. The piece I got was $25.00 per meter (normally $44). They only have one colour though.
If you can't get any you will have to make your own. You would need 1 mtr of fabric and some wadding (I have plenty of wadding) or 1/2 mtr each of 2 different fabrics.(preferably matching). We can do this on the day (or night)

Scrapbooking on Thursday

Some of us went to Chelsea's home on Thursday.
I turned this

into this.
Thanks Chelsea.

If you would like to come and learn how to do this, the next session will be on Thursday the 14th August. With Chelsea's help anyone can do it.

VISITING TEACHING

Just a reminder that it is almost the end of the month. If you have been visiting teaching please report to Jo-anne  or Elaine. If you havn't been it's not too late. Please let us know if there are any sisters in need of help.

Blankets and Wool

Bishop would like an "inventory" on who has spare blankets. We don't need  any blankets at the moment but Bishop  Smith would like to know who has any blankets they could spare in an emergency, either to give away or to lend. I will ask on Sunday.
Also Stake YW have asked for donations of knitting wool for a project in August. So if you have any wool you are not using see Blanche. She would also like some knitters to help with the project. Let Blanche know if you can help.

SCRAPBOOKING/PAPERCRAFT & NEEDLECRAFT

Craft days are about to begin!  Once a month you can join together with other beginner/old hand scrapbookers to have fun and crank out some cool stuff!

The first one is at Chelsea's place on Thursday 10th July, 10am - 12 noon.  Just  bring what you want to work on.

Alternately you could buy one of these cute Maya Road chipboard albums off Chelsea and work on it each month with the help of Chelsea to make it cool!!  A couple of pages a month and it could be a  great gift for Christmas!  Let Chelsea know soon if you would like to get one.

Albums are pretty cheap.  An 8 x 8 inch is $8.50,    a 6 x 6 is $6,     or a  4 x 4 is $5

Look forward to seeing you there...

NEEDLECRAFT

Needlecraft will start the on the 23rd July. You can work on your own project or make a casserole carrier. It will be held at Debbie's place at 10.00 -12.00 as well as at 7.30 -9.30 in the evening. Come morning or evening or both!

Walking

Our first walk was great. The walkers were Marj, Bec, Chelsea, Annette, (Chelsea's mum) Elle and Debbie. We had 5 riders (in prams). It was a very cold morning but we rugged up and soon warmed up. We had a great time walking and chatting. There was a nice playground for the children to have a little play when we finished but it was too cold to stay for long. We are all looking forward to the 2nd of July when we will do it all again. Come and join in. It's fun, even in the cold weather. Thanks for organising it Bec.

Leadership Meeting with Elder Sybrowsky "Come and See"

Elder and Sister Sybrowsky spoke to us as did President and Sister Lee from the Melblourne West Mission. We also heard from President and Sister Prebble.
They invited us to share the gospel with others and taught us about leadership. A couple of quotes from the meeting were:

"This life is not a game. The time we have is limited. We will give a stewardwhip report."
"We (the church) do not compete with the world as entertainment."

Mosiah 23: 14-18
And also trust no one to be your teacher nor your minister, except he be a man of God, walking in his ways and keeping his commandments.
Thus did Alma teach his people, that every man should love his neighbor as himself, that there should be no contention among them.

Mosiah 2: 41
And moreover, I would desire that ye should consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God. For behold, they are blessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual; and if they hold out faithful to the end they are received into heaven, that thereby they may dwell with God in a state of neverending happiness.  O remember, remember that these things are true; for the Lord God hath spoke it.

We were also reminded of the goals President Prebble spoke about at Stake Conference

Announcements

We need some volunteers to make soup for the HFPE  evening on the 24 th June. If you are able to help please see either Sister Andy King or Angela Stewart.  Please keep receipts of costs so that you can be reimbursed.

We also have some mid-week activities organised so check the sidebar for details. Sisters Rebecca Bone and Sister Marjorie Lorraine have been busy organising activities so remember to check the blog Mid-Week Activities Spot for activities you may be interested in attending.

Also there was a car key found in the Ladies toilets on Sunday. It's for a Ford car so if you are missing a key it is on the notice board.

We have a baptism on Saturday 15th of June at 4.oopm. Andrea has been attending church for a few weeks now and she will be baptised on Saturday. It would be nice to see some sisters come and support Andrea in the important decision she has made. Please introduce yourself to her and get to know her and her little baby Eva.

Sunday 9th June

Today we had 9 visitors in Relief Society. We hope they enjoyed their visit and that some of you got to speak to some of them.  There were a large no of sisters in Releif Society and we all got to participate in the lesson. We sang a Primary Song about baptism and then Sister Pat Barwick gave us an interesting lesson about Baptism and the Holy Ghost.

Farewell Charlotte

This week Charlotte Wheeler was married to Jake Prebble, in the Sydney Temple.  Rumour has it that they will not be living in our ward boundry. We didn't see Charlotte in Relief Society very often because she was serving in Primary but we will miss her from our ward. We wish them all the very best for their future together. I'm sure we'll see them occasionally. CONGRATULATIONS and BEST WISHES.
