Sunday Snippet

This is the first of what we hope will be an ongoing thing...we are going to try to post something every Sunday! It will include announcements and a brief outline of the RS lesson. We are very aware that relief society sisters serving in Primary and Young Women, and those who have to be away from our ward on assignments, for work or for personal reasons can sometimes feel a bit out of the loop. So this is to try, in some small way, to get around that. We have been asking someone to take notes during RS time. These will be photocopied and distributed as best we can on Sunday's after church. If you fall into the category of someone who would appreciate a copy please seek out Fiona Rea, Sue Smith or myself. As you can well imagine trying to get around everyone is problematic and people will miss out from time to time. That is why we will also update the blog with the same information.

So...that being said please be patient with us as we find our feet n our new callings and try our best to serve the sisters of our ward.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

5 minute music was a song from the Primary Sacrament Presentation (which was today) sung to us by Chelsea Parsons and her daughter Darby.

The Young Women visited with us today for opening exercises. It is always nice to have an injection of 'youth'. I love to have the chance to recite the Young Women theme with them and to hear their sweet voices when we sing. The Laurels and some of the YW Presidency stayed for the lesson.

Today's lesson was taught by sister Pat Barwick. Lesson 40 JSM.

Firstly we were paired with someone we didn't know very well and we had to find out the following information : name, members of their family, about their home, favourite food, colour, movie star, their 'decade' age.

We discussed what it is that makes a friend a friend. We were banned from using the word 'loyal'!!!

An extensive list was compiled and included:

• someone you can relax and chill out with
• unconditional love
• common interests/ experiences
• reliability
• being able to share feelings/thoughts with them and wanting to.
• a feeling of love for your friend and them for you.
• 'really' talks to you
• good listener
• makes you feel happy
• kindred spirits/spirit world friend?
• mutual attraction/admiration
• no awkward silences
• undemanding of time - doesn't expect reciprocation of things they happily do for you
• helps and cares for you
• helps you be the best you can be/ brings out the best in you
• believes in you and supports you

Pat read us part of a story from the JULY 2009 ENSIGN 'Am I of Worth', about a sister who had been very successful and suddenly found herself very ill and mostly bedridden. She began to question her worth. What could she possibly have to offer now? we didn't hear the end of the story but came to our own conclusion that Heavenly Father loves us all unconditionally and we ALL have worth, we all have something to offer.

Finished with reading from Joseph Smith Manual (JSM) p 461 "How good and glorious...are true friends".

We closed by singing a primary song "We are Different".

After church it was ICE-CREAM Sunday (ticked off I missed out AGAIN for the second time in a row!!!!!!!!) to celebrate the wonderful job the kids and their leaders did with the presentation today. They had a wonderful display of photos and drawings of the primary children and what they had learned over the past year.

New Presidency

On Sunday the 25th Oct I and my councelors were released.

Congratulations to the new Relief Society President, Sister Blanche Sayers and her councilors, sisters Fiona Rea and Sue Smith.

I would like to thank everyone who served with me, especially those with callings in Relief Society. Thank you to Bishop Smith and the Priesthood bretheren for their support, and the members of the Ward Council. Also to all the sisters who were so willing to help when asked. Thanks also for all the service that is freely given without the necessity of being asked. It has been a blessing to be able to interact with so many special sisters. I am very grateful for the love and friendship that has been shared.

I'm looking forward to just enjoying Relief Society lessons and activities in the future as well as continuing to enjoy the company of the sisters of our Ward.

General RS BROADCAST

The Broadcast will be held on Sunday night the 18th October at 7.00. Sorry for the late notice. We have only just received advice about the broadcast.

We have also been advised that there will be a Stake Relief Society Fireside on Saturday the 21st November at 7.00.

Pot Luck Dinner

The dinner which has been organised by the High Priests will be on this Saturday night.

the 3rd October at 6.00.

It will be held at the Stake Centre.

There will be games for the family.

Please bring some food to share.

BULK BUYS

I was just browsing a few of the blogs I follow and saw a post on

the Rosny Ward RS Blog I thought was worth mentioning. We are always on the look out for good buys, especially when it comes to food storage and bulk buys. Check out this place : Food lovers on Albert (if you haven't already). It is located next to Montile Tile at 49 Albert Rd, and supplies bulk nuts, beans, lentils, bread mix, dried fruits, spices, oils, pasta, rice, drinking chocolate etc. Not all Australian made, but well priced. Apparently they have been there for quite some time but I was unaware they even existed! Seems as though they stock some really good buys.

I'll be heading out there this week.

If anyone else knows about helpful info like this please let us know.

Compassionate service

Jodi has been in hospital with pneumonia. We have organised a roster of sisters to visit her between 11.00 - 3.00 each week day except Wednesday. She needs help watching her children so she can rest and recover. She does not require food etc. but I'm sure if you were to offer to do ironing etc she may find something you can do while you are there.

This is the roster.

Some Dates for your Calender

On Saturday 12th September at 5.00p.m. at the Hobart Stake Centre. there is Special Area Training for Sisters. The Broadcast will be conducted by the Pacific Area Presidency. All sisters over 18 are invited to attend. It will feature Sister Silvia Allred, First Counsellor of the Relief Society General Presidency and Sister Margaret Lifferth , First Counsellor of the Primary General Presidency.

On Tuesday the 6th October a Fireside with Sister Keaton (mother of a missionary returning home from our Melbourne West Mission.) More details later.

On Tuesday 17th November a musical evening with Kenneth Cope. More details later
